My Not-So Vegan Mind

Tofurkey, tofurkey
Tofu that tastes like turkey?
The lettuce was crisp, green, and fresh
Each bite made me want meat less.
Was it the taste or just the thought
Of cows being slaughtered by the lot.
Those “free roam”, “cage- free” chickens,
Were locked in a room with thousands much like themselves,
Waiting for your eyes to spot them on the shelves.
You didn’t hate, but you still ate them.
This instinct you possess,
Lead to the murders of chickens in excess.
I’ll be honest, I’m not even vegan,
But by the way i'm speaking,
You assume I am.
We know the facts, we choose not to listen.
Let’s be real, tofu just doesn’t taste like chicken.

I walk through halls of grey
where everyone’s the same
and those who dream in color
monotones all they pray for.
Why are we so consumed
by what we see above our bathroom sinks.
Little girls base their dreams off what they see inside of magazines.
Little boys want what they see on the TV.
They ask mom and dad why other people aren’t like me.
I don’t want to live
in this stereotypical world
Anymore.
